ENVIRONMENTALLY SAFE MOBILE CRANE...HAS INDUSTRIES ATTENTIONBURBANK: Len Owings, Shikepoke, Inc. President and long time development partner with MPC, announced the rollout of the newly designed MOTION PICTURE MOBILE CAMERA CRANE. The camera crane has been structured to "fly" 3 people on the turret with a lens height of 35 feet without extenders, surpassing the competition by 9 total feet. Environmental issues have always been a priority with Shikepoke and MPC, this system exceeds with new techniques to keep grips, operators and our planet Earth safe from harm. The system has completed test on the new "STEADI-FLYER" designed to take a Steadicam operator and assist up the arm and allow a "CLEAN WALK OFF". Ready to roll on the upcoming MPC film project, this system will be the crane of choice for exteriors on the movie "Take My Hand". Accommodating the crane is a MPC remote jib built with a proprietary platform and safety rigging to reach those really high and dramatic creative shots. "I'm thrilled with what this unit can do, from the extensive safety and environmental issues addressed to the beautiful smooth moves we'll achieve through the lens" MPC's John Cummings said. 10 GREAT GRIP TIPS Plenty of people want to get into the production business, if you want to be a grip you'll need to know some basic rules the "Hall" doesn't seem to tell you. 1. Never have your cell phone on during a gig, the sound of vibrating or worst "ringing" will get you fired from the set faster than you arrived. Keep it off and check your messages during meal time. 2. Don't look for your next job while on the set, nothing makes a producer more angry then if someone is talking on a cell about their next job while being paid on the current gig. 3. If you work a dolly and track is laid, put shims on the inside of the track so no one trips! Remember safety first. 4. Look like you want to work and not there for the craft food table. Dress neatly and cleanly, you may go home a mess, but first impressions work. 5. Keep your comments to yourself, unless asked. If you want to be the Director, then do it on another gig. 6. Bring grip gloves and ware them. Working with lead weights and cables can cause serious health problems that get into your system through the pours of your skin without you knowing...be prepared. 7. Move quickly, each minute that ticks bye has a cost factor to it. Look like you know what you're doing, don't hesitate. Know your gear. 8. Don't sit around reading the newspaper and eating donuts...look busy...you're not a teamster! There is always something to do on a hot set. 9. Bring your diddy bag with the proper tools in it. There is nothing worst then to have a grip looking for a general tool and know how to tie a slip knot. 10. Be polite, you never know what the Producer or Directors next gig is. If they like you, chances are, you'll be asked back.
